About the Role

A remote opportunity is available for a Rust Backend Developer to help design scalable APIs and evaluate the impact of AI-powered coding tools on real development workflows. This role involves backend engineering tasks alongside hands-on testing of AI models used in developer tools.

The ideal candidate has strong Rust backend experience, is comfortable working with APIs and databases, and has a strong interest in AI-assisted development tools.


Role Responsibilities

Design, develop, and optimize REST and GraphQL endpoints for scalable APIs.
Implement strong data validation, error handling, and security best practices within backend services.
Plan and execute database migrations, optimizations, and schema updates when needed.
Actively test new AI-powered models in Cursor and provide feedback through incident reports, bug traces, and screenshots.
Participate in 4-day intensive testing sessions to evaluate how AI models affect real coding workflows.
Engage with the research team in a dedicated Slack channel to discuss findings and suggest improvements.
Submit detailed post-testing reports with insights on model performance and developer experience.


Requirements

Professional experience as a backend developer with strong expertise in Rust.
Proficiency in building and maintaining RESTful and GraphQL APIs.
Strong understanding of backend data validation, error handling, and API security practices.
Experience with database migrations, performance optimization, and schema design.
Hands-on experience using AI tools for coding; familiarity with Cursor is highly desirable.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially for reporting incidents and bugs.
Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, collaborative remote environments.
Visible contributions to open source projects (such as GitHub contributions).
Experience designing or evaluating developer tools and experimental workflows.
Strong interest in AI advancements in software development.
